January 3, 2017 Calling All Artists! What's the Plan?
2017 has started clicking down. As every studio artist knows all too well, this is our business. This is how we make our living, this making art thing. What is your plan for the year? What one, two, or three things will you’ve doing this year that a) has/have been so super successful in the past, it/they will be the core of your business plan in 2017, or b) you have determined is a solid action that can move your practice forward so you will try it this year?
I’m a newbie in this studio practice world, but after all those years in the financial services industry, I realized recently that I was employing the same basic tactics and metrics to seek opportunities in my artist practice that I did as a highly successful producer in the brokerage industry: make so many contacts with prospects per week as a broker vs entering so many juried art shows per week as an artist; dedicate a specific number of hours to market research vs dedicated hours for actually making the art — all done within the rhythm of a schedule. These tenets led me to amazing opportunities this past fall, but I got off track a month or so ago. My first order of business for 2017 is to recapture that discipline!
My second order of business is to come to you, my fellow artists, to ask, “What is it that you do that moves your art business forward?” After all, another great thing I learned in my past life is that the Masters who have gone before me have great lessons they can teach me. :):). So please help a sistah out! What’s your best idea for 2017? Please post right here on my blog where we all can benefit from the plethora of ideas!
Excited about our mutual and individual success in 2017,
