October 5, 2016 Inspirations
Today was just one of those kind of days in Philadelphia….one of those beautiful fall days that just lifts your heart as you bask in the sunshine! I had to go have some medical tests done this morning (just old people stuff – not to worry!). As I walked back to my apartment through “America’s most historic square mile”, I passed the Curtis Building. We don’t do that often enough, you know…. be tourists in our own city. So today, I decided I would be that local explorer!
Inside the walls of the Curtis Building was not only the magic of the magazine, Highlights for Children that delighted me as a child, but also one of the most impressive murals in the world!
I’d recently heard about his glass mosaic, Dream Garden by Maxwell Parrish, in a news story detailing how remodeling in the building created cracks in the piece. Work was temporarily halted until a protective solution was developed. As I entered the naturally lighted atrium, I was so taken with this piece that it became a part of today’s musings and playings in the studio:
I printed the photo on Tyvek (my new best toy!) and then texturized it with heat and a bit of melted crayola wax. Isn’t it fabulous?!?!? Yes, the fun just continues!!
Here’s hoping you have had one of those soul tingling fall days as well!
