Thanks for perusing my website, and welcome to my musings!
In this section of the website, I would like to occasionally share with you some of my thoughts regarding my works while they are in the formation stages. I hope you will share your comments here with me as well!
To me, color and texture are everything. They bring life to the ordinary. And nobody does color better than Mother Nature herself! Recently, in one of my classes at UArts, we experimented with natural dyes such as marigolds and concord grapes. I loved the process so much, I began experimenting at home on my own with things such as black rice that yields a surprisingly glorious deep lavender. I found that turmeric gives you a color so yellow, it makes you want a hot dog! Mung bean powder mysteriously starts out giving you this very murky brown that, with each boil, becomes more and more green!!!!
You’ll be seeing some of these natural beauties in some of my upcoming pieces, but for now, here’s a tiny sampling of just one…with a little stippling to texturize….
I can’t close this very first post without a special acknowledgement and thanks to my awesome son, Charles! He designed this website for me and deserves a HUGE pat on the back. After all, we all know how difficult those artist types can be to work with! Great job, son!
Until next time….
